This guide contains instructions for building the base plate for the Positron V3.2.

2. Installation

For all the M2.5 screws, please use our screwdriver included in the kit.

Install Standoffs

Step 1 of 28 in this section

Turn over the base plate and insert M3x8 BHCS screws through the holes as shown in the picture. Secure M3x8x7x10 standoffs into the screws.

Install the Switch PCB Mount

Install M2.5x3x4 heatset inserts into holes of the printed mount.

Position the switch PCB mount onto the base plate. Secure the mount with M3x6 BHCS screws.

The goove on the base plate is designed to allow for a built-in power supply for future upgrades. The switch PCB mount is to fill the groove.

Prepare the Motors

Put the motor plates on top of the motors and secure with M3x6 BHCS screws.

Install AB Motors

Attach the AB motor plates to the standoffs and secure with M3x8 BHCS screws.

Install the Mainboard

Turn the mainboard over and stick the thermal silicone pads to the spots as shown in the image.

Install Z Drive to the Base Plate

The teeth of the belt should face the pulley.

Turn over the base plate and secure the Z drive using M3x8 BHCS screws.

Base Plate Wiring

Step 8 of 28 in this section

Refer to the pictures for base plate wiring. All the wires except the toolhead cable, power inlet cable and power switch cable should be wired beforehad as it will be difficult after the light strips, side panels and top covers are installed.

Plug the toolhead cable to the toolhead PCB as shown in the picure. We will install the PCB in later a step.

Move the Jumper above the Z_Endstop pin to the left, bridging ZSTOP and SIG. Refer to Positron Team Wiki .

Prepare the Front Bumper

Install M3x6x5 heatset inserts into the printed front bumper.

Position Light Bar Brackets

Install M2.5x3x4 heatset inserts into the hole of the rear light bar bracket.

Install Light Guide Strip

Position the light guide strips onto the light bar bracket and secure with M2.5x6 BHCS screws.

Prepare Side Panels

Install the fish bone grills to the panels. Please use a dab of glue to keep them in place.

There are two types of grills you can use, fish bone grills and slanted grills. Either will do.

Pay attention to the the direction of the grills which should be in accordance with the direction of the fans so that the wind can flow in.

Install the Power Switch

Unscrew the nut on the switch, insert the the power switch cable through the hole of the back left side panel and screw the nut back.

Install Left Upper Top Cover

Position the left upper top cover to the base plate and secure with BHCS screws. Use M2.5x10 BHCS screws in the holes close to the side panels (marked 2). Use an M2.5x6 BHCS screw in the hole close to the Z drive (marked 1).

Put the printed left panel cornerstones on the top cover and secure with M2.5x10 BHCS screws.

The kit comes with greased rails from batch 2. If you find your rails are not greased, remember to grease it beforehand. How to check if it is greased: Wipe the rail gently with a clean cloth or tissue. If it feels slightly oily or you see a thin, shiny layer on the surface, the rail is greased. If it looks dry or the cloth stays clean, it likely needs lubrication.

Position the Z joint base block to the base plate. Secure it to the tensioner block using an M3x25 SHCS screw.

Leave 4mm gap between the tensioner block and the base block. It is used for belt tensioning in a later step.
